Fans Want Zack Snyder’s The Dark Knight Returns Movie After New Photo

A recent post from director Zack Snyder has started widespread speculation that he may be planning a direct adaptation of Frank Miller’s seminal graphic novel, The Dark Knight Returns. This comes after fans spotted a copy of the book in a photo from his pottery studio.

The speculation ignited when Snyder shared a photo from his personal studio on Instagram. While the focus was on his pottery, eagle-eyed fans immediately zeroed in on a copy of The Dark Knight Returns visible in the background. Given Snyder’s history with the material, the community interpreted this as a potential teaser.

Comments flooded in, with fans writing, “I’d love to see Zack Snyder’s The Dark Knight Returns,” and “Interesting placement of Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns.” The hashtag #MakeTheBatfleckMovie began circulating, pointing to hopes for a Ben Affleck-led project set in Snyder’s established universe.

Some focused on the supposed tease itself, saying, “Great pottery! And great Batman book as well,” and “Interesting placement of Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns.” Speculation quickly escalated, with fans jumping to bigger conclusions. “Yes, I am convinced boss is going to direct the Dark Knight,” one comment read. Another claimed, “Looks like Ben’s finally gonna get to make his Batman film.” Longtime supporters of Snyder’s DC work also weighed in, as one fan wrote, “I love the easter egg on the left. I hope it’s a teaser for something what true DC fans were waiting for for almost a decade <3 #RestoreTheSnyderVerse.”

This isn’t the first time Snyder has drawn from Miller’s work. The 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice heavily featured armored Batman imagery pulled directly from The Dark Knight Returns. Additionally, Snyder has previously said he would only adapt The Dark Knight Returns if it were “a true representation of the graphic novel.” His strongest comic book films, including 300 and Watchmen, were direct adaptations, which continues to fuel fan belief that he could deliver a faithful version of the story (via Comic Book Movie).

For now, there is no confirmation that a Dark Knight Returns movie is in development.
