Stranger Things Star Will Join Marvel or DC on 1 Condition

A Stranger Things alum has made it clear that he is not ruling out a future in the superhero space. Dacre Montgomery recently revealed that he would consider joining either Marvel or DC, but only if one creative condition is met.

While promoting his historical thriller Dead Man’s Wire, Dacre Montgomery spoke to The Direct about the possibility of joining the superhero genre. When asked whether there are any Marvel or DC characters he would like to play, the actor explained that the appeal lies less in the character and more in the filmmaker behind the project.

“I would be interested in doing anything depending on the director,” Montgomery said. He also addressed the current state of superhero films, acknowledging that while the genre is experiencing renewed momentum, it is also facing widespread fatigue. “I feel like there’s a bit of general kind of fatigue around the whole superhero genre,” he added, sharing that creative vision is what would ultimately draw him in.

He went on to praise filmmakers who have reshaped comic book storytelling, singling out Zack Snyder for his work on Watchmen, which Montgomery cited as one of his favorite films for its gritty, violent, and noir tone. He also spoke about Taika Waititi for bringing a fresh perspective to the early Thor movies. According to Montgomery, directors who “changed the face of the superhero subgenre” by offering new perspectives are what make the genre appealing to him now, especially after years of formula-driven releases.

Moreover, Montgomery’s name has frequently surfaced in superhero casting discussions. He was a popular fan choice for Johnny Storm in Marvel’s rebooted Fantastic Four, a role that ultimately went to Joseph Quinn. Fans earlier also speculated about him potentially stepping into Wolverine following Hugh Jackman’s exit from the role.

For now, Montgomery is focused on Dead Man’s Wire, a historical thriller directed by Gus Van Sant, which was released in select theaters on January 9, 2026.
