Wildwood Release Date Set for Laika’s New Stop-Motion Movie

Laika’s upcoming movie Wildwood officially has a release date, with the company revealing when the highly anticipated stop-motion animated movie will come out.

When is Wildwood’s release date?

Wildwood’s release has been set for October 23, 2026. The film will release in theaters in the U.S. and be Laika’s first release since 2019’s Missing Link.

Wildwood is directed by Travis Knight and written by Chris Butler, and is based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Colin Meloy and illustrated by Chris Butler. The film features a star-studded cast, including Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Tom Waits, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, and Richard E. Grant.

“Prue McKeel and her best friend Curtis are drawn into a hidden, magical forest, after Prue’s baby brother Mac is kidnapped by crows, led by a mysterious woman named Alexandra,” reads the official film’s synopsis.

Much like all of Laika’s previous films, Wildwood will be made in stop-motion animation, which the company has become known for. Prior Laika films include the hit 2009 movie Coraline, as well as 2012’s ParaNorman, 2014’s The Boxtrolls, and 2016’s Kubo and the Two Strings.

In a statement on the release, Knight said that Wildwood is the “biggest world” the studio has ever made.

“Wildwood is the biggest world Laika has ever built, and the most personal,” said Travis Knight, President and Chief Executive Officer of Laika. “It’s a story about the pull of the unknown, the courage it takes to step into it, and who you become along the way. Our movie is a celebration of artistry over algorithms, and of the belief that films made by hand, with enormous care, can still feel bold, surprising, dangerous, and alive. We designed ‘Wildwood’ to be seen the way movies first captured our imaginations: discovered in the dark, on a big screen, with a room full of fellow dreamers experiencing joy, silence, and wonder together. Partnering with Fathom and FilmNation means Wildwood will arrive with intention – as a true cinematic event meant to be shared.”
