8th Installment of Hit Horror Movie Franchise Sets Release Date

Paramount and key producers revealed new details about the upcoming Paranormal Activity film as the franchise prepares for its next chapter. The team confirmed the release date for the eighth installment but kept story specifics under wraps.

Paranormal Activity 8 sets release date

Paramount set May 21, 2027, as the release date for the eighth Paranormal Activity film. Ian Tuason will direct the new installment. His previous feature, Undertone, premiered at the 2025 Fantasia International Film Festival. It won the audience award.

Paramount and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster are co-financing and co-producing the project. James Wan and Jason Blum, both from Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, are producing the film. Oren Peli, the creator of the original Paranormal Activity, also joins as a producer through Solana Films. Michael Clear and Judson Scott of Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, along with Steven Schneider of Room 101 Inc., serve as executive producers.

James Wan said, “I’ve been a huge admirer of Paranormal Activity since the brilliant first movie, with its creeping slow burn and subtle ability to make the unseen terrifying. I’m looking forward to expanding on its legacy and helping shape the next evolution of this scary found-footage franchise” (via The Hollywood Reporter). Jason Blum added, “Diving in with James for this exciting rebirth of the franchise that started it all for Blumhouse is exactly what we dreamed of when we merged with Atomic Monster” (via The Wrap).

Paramount released the original Paranormal Activity in 2007. The film, made on a $15,000 budget, earned around $193-194 million globally. It set a benchmark for profitability in film history and redefined the found-footage horror genre. The franchise has since generated over $900 million worldwide across seven films.

The studios have not disclosed any plot details for Paranormal Activity 8. Paramount will be taking care of the film’s theatrical distribution. Warner Bros. currently has the only other wide studio release scheduled for May 21, 2027, with the animated film Bad Fairies, featuring the voice of Cynthia Erivo.
