New Anna Faris Comedy From Hangover Writers Sets Release Date
Anna Faris‘ new comedy movie from the writers of The Hangover has announced its release date. Jon Lucas and Scott Moore wrote and directed Spa Weekend. The movie’s cast also includes Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, and Michelle Buteau.
Black Bear’s Spa Weekend sets release date for Labor Day weekend
Spa Weekend will debut in theaters on September 4, 2026. Black Bear produced the movie with Suzanne Todd’s production company, Team Todd.
The official logline for the movie reads, “The film follows three best friends, Jane, Coco, and Sophie, as they embark on some much-needed pampering during a luxury spa break in Palm Springs. But when their trainwreck friend, Mel, turns up, the relaxation quickly descends into chaos with hilarious consequences.”
Original announcements for the feature came in August 2024. Production began in February 2025 in Queensland, Australia. Brouhaha Entertainment, an Australia-based production company, dealt with local services for the project, making Spa Weekend its third Queensland venture after the 2024 Netflix miniseries Boy Swallows Universe and the 2025 survival horror film Dangerous Animals.
As mentioned above, Lucas and Moore were the writers of The Hangover, the first entry in a highly-successful comedy trilogy. The duo also penned screenplays for Chicken Little, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Flypaper, and The Change-Up. They made their directorial debut with the 2013 feature 21 & Over, which they also wrote. They have since written and directed Bad Moms, A Bad Moms Christmas, and Jexi.
Among these movies, 21 & Over performed poorly with critics but did moderately well at the global box office. Meanwhile, Bad Moms made more than $183.9 million at the box office. The movie currently has a 59% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A Bad Moms Christmas also received mostly negative responses from critics but made over $130 million globally.
Notably, in 2026, Faris will also reprise her role as Cindy Campbell in Scary Movie 6.
