Beloved Zombie Horror Movie Leaving Netflix Very Soon

An iconic movie recognized for revitalizing the zombie horror genre is departing Netflix soon, giving subscribers only a limited time to catch it. 28 Days Later, featuring Cillian Murphy, is one of many films leaving Netflix next month. Originally released in 2002, the film introduced Murphy to a wider audience and became a critical and commercial success.

Cillian Murphy-led 28 Days Later is leaving Netflix on February 1, 2026, as per What’s on Netflix. Accordingly, subscribers have around 17 days to watch the movie before it leaves the platform.

Following its release in 2002, the film grossed approximately $75 million globally (via Box Office Mojo). Its success led to a franchise, which consists of multiple sequels. The first sequel, 28 Weeks Later, was released in 2007, while the second, 28 Years Later, arrived in 2025. Meanwhile, the third, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, was released recently in the United Kingdom and will hit the United States soon.

On Rotten Tomatoes, 28 Days Later has a critical score of 87% and a robust audience score of 85%. Meanwhile, Metacritic, which uses a weighted average to determine scores, has given the film a Metascore of 73, based on 39 critic reviews, and a user score of 7.7, based on 624 user ratings. Both of these point to a “Generally Favorable” reception.

28 Days Later follows Jim, a bicycle courier who wakes up from a traffic accident-induced coma to find London in complete disarray and chaos. He soon realizes, to his horror, that society has collapsed and people have died, thanks to the outbreak of a highly contagious, aggression-inducing virus, accidentally released by animal activists. Jim later meets with fellow survivors of the outbreak, working with them to survive.

Danny Boyle directed 28 Days Later, while Alex Garland wrote it. In addition to Murphy, 28 Days Later also stars Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston, Brendan Gleeson, and Megan Burns, among others.
