Tuner gets a May theatrical release date

Black Bear has set a spring theatrical rollout for Tuner, the romantic thriller starring Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman. The film will open in limited release on May 22, 2026, followed by a nationwide expansion on May 29, 2026 (via Deadline).

Directed and co-written by Oscar-winning filmmaker Daniel Roher, Tuner made its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival before screening at TIFF, where it drew strong critical acclaim. The film currently holds a 96% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising its blend of suspense and romance.

In a review, Lainey Gossip critic Sarah Marrs wrote, “Tuner has all the hallmarks of a good heist flick—a little bit of action, a little bit of romance, a lot of tension, and increasingly high stakes as events spiral of out control.” She also praised Woodall’s performance for navigating the film’s shifting tones “flawlessly.”

Woodall stars as Niki, a gifted piano tuner whose exceptional sense of hearing sets him apart. When he discovers that his precise auditory abilities can also be used to crack safes, his life takes an unexpected and dangerous turn. Once a promising musician, Niki now works across New York alongside his mentor Harry Horowitz, played by Dustin Hoffman, as criminals begin to take notice of his rare talent.

The film also stars Havana Rose Liu as Ruthie, a driven piano composition student who introduces Niki to a different set of possibilities. The supporting cast includes Lior Raz, Nissan Sakira, Tovah Feldshuh, and Jean Reno.
