Peacock Adds 5 Iconic Action Movies Today
Five Lionsgate blockbuster sci-fi adventure movies with a combined worldwide gross of over $3.3 billion at the box office have just been added to Peacock‘s library.
What are the iconic action movies available on Peacock today?
As of today, 2012’s The Hunger Games, 2013’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, 2014’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, and 2015’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 are now finally available to stream on Peacock. All four movies starred Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence as the Katniss Everdeen. In addition, the blockbuster franchise’s most recent installment, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, is now also streaming on Peacock over two years after it was released in theaters.
The Hunger Games franchise was based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling sci-fi dystopian novel series. The first movie was directed by Gary Ross, while the rest of the sequels were helmed by Francis Lawrence. Besides Lawrence, the original movies were also led by Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, Coriolanus Snow as Donath Sutherland, and more. As for 2023’s The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, the prequel featured Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird, Tom Blyth as a young Coriolanus Snow, Hunter Schafer as Tigris Snow, Peter Dinklage as Dean Highbottom, and Viola Davis as Dr. Volumnia Gaul.
“In what was once North America, the Capitol of Panem maintains its hold on its 12 districts by forcing them each to select a boy and a girl, called Tributes, to compete in a nationally televised event called the Hunger Games. Every citizen must watch as the youths fight to the death until only one remains. District 12 Tribute Katniss Everdeen has little to rely on, other than her hunting skills and sharp instincts, in an arena where she must weigh survival against love,” reads the synopsis for the first installment.
Following the 2023 prequel’s success, Lionsgate is once again set to release another Hunger Games prequel. Titled Sunrise on the Reaping, The upcoming movie will center around a young Haymitch Abernathy, who becomes one of District 12’s four tributes for the 50th Hunger Games. It stars Joseph Zada as Haymitch, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, and Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow. The highly anticipated movie comes out on November 20, 2026.
