Digger Star Tells Fans What to Expect from Mysterious Tom Cruise Movie
One of the stars of Digger has given fans some idea of what to expect from the new mysterious Tom Cruise movie.
Digger is a forthcoming comedy movie that is directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Starring Cruise as a character named Digger Rockwell, the movie will be released in United States theaters this fall by Warner Bros. Pictures.
For now, not much is known about the plot of Digger. Warner Bros. Pictures released a short video last month that shows someone — presumably Cruise’s character — dancing with a shovel, but plot details remain largely under wraps at this point, as the synopsis simply reads, “A comedy of catastrophic proportions.”
What did Jesse Plemons say about Digger?
Speaking with Variety, actor Jesse Plemons didn’t reveal anything about Digger’s story; however, he did provide some details regarding what kind of tone the movie will have.
“It’s one of the strangest, funniest, most tragic scripts I’ve read,” Plemons said. “There’s a kind of modern-day Dr. Strangelove thing, and then it becomes something else entirely.”
Dr. Strangelove — also known as Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb — is the 1964 political satire directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film is a parody of the Cold War and is largely about a war room full of politicians trying to prevent a nuclear holocaust.
Plemons also said about Digger, “Getting to see Tom just go for it — not in a death-defying action way but fully showing what an incredible actor he is — that was thrilling.”
In addition to Cruise and Plemons, Digger stars Sandra Huller, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, Sophie Wilde, and Emma D’Arcy, among others. The script comes from Iñárritu, Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolas Giacobone, and Sabrina Berman. This will be Iñárritu’s most recent film since 2022’s Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths.
Digger arrives on October 2, 2026.
