Brendan Fraser Attends Crying Session in Rental Family Deleted Scene | Exclusive

ComingSoon is debuting an exclusive Rental Family clip, previewing an upcoming deleted scene from the film’s upcoming home and digital release. Rental Family will release at home on digital on January 13, 2026, and then release on Blu-ray a month later, on February 17, 2026.

“Set against modern-day Tokyo, Rental Family follows an American actor (Brendan Fraser) who struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese “rental family” agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “As he immerses himself in his clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality. Confronting the moral complexities of his work, he rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the quiet beauty of human connection.”

What happens in the exclusive Rental Family deleted scene?

The deleted scene sees Brendan Fraser’s Phillip Vanderploeg attempting to console a crying woman before speaking with Takehiro Hira’s Shinji about the rental agency program and what it might entail. Alongside Fraser, the film also stars Mari Yamamoto, Takehiro Hira, and Akira Emoto.

Rental Family will be available to rent or own on digital platforms starting on Tuesday, January 13. It will then be followed by its Blu-ray release on Tuesday, February 17. Since its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, the movie has received a Certified Fresh rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 160 reviews.

The movie was directed and produced by acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Hikari (Beef, Tokyo Vice), who co-wrote the screenplay with Stephen Blahut.
