Elle Fanning on if Jennifer Lawrence Will Be in Next Hunger Games Movie
Reports suggesting Jennifer Lawrence‘s Katniss Everdeen‘s appearance in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, a prequel to the original 2012 film, have fueled speculation about the nature and capacity of her involvement. Now, Elle Fanning, one of the stars of the upcoming movie, has addressed whether Lawrence is in it.

While speaking to Variety at the Golden Globes Red Carpet Pre-Show, Fanning was asked if she extended her scheduled filming days after joining The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping upon learning that Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson would make “surprise cameo[s]” as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in the prequel.
The Predator: Badlands star acted coy and replied, “I can’t confirm that. I did not see them on set. That is true.”
Speculation about Hutcherson and Lawrence’s involvement in the film surfaced after The Insneider shared a rumor about it. This speculation was later seemingly confirmed by major trade publications like Deadline.
While Lawrence has yet to publicly address her involvement in Sunrise on the Reaping, Hutcherson has addressed the speculation about his. Months before Deadline and other trades confirmed his appearance, the Five Nights at Freddy’s star told Brit + Co, “Yeah, no, that’d be cool. No, I know nothing in that world right now.”
Details about Katniss and Peeta’s roles in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping are being kept under wraps. However, readers of the book that the film will adapt will know that the pair appear in the epilogue listening to Haymitch Abernathy — the main protagonist of the film and the book — narrate his past.
The first teaser trailer for Sunrise on the Reaping was released on November 20, 2025, days before filming wrapped. Following its release, the trailer generated considerable buzz, reportedly raking in 109 million views in one day.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will hit theaters on November 20, 2026. Francis Lawrence, who directed previous installments of the franchise, helmed the film from Billy Ray’s screenplay.
In addition to Elle Fanning, the film stars Joseph Zada, McKenna Grace, Maya Hawke, and Ralph Fiennes, among others.
