Emma Stone Breaks Silence on if She’s Playing Miss Piggy
Emma Stone addressed one of the biggest rumors surrounding her upcoming project with Jennifer Lawrence, breaking her silence on whether she’ll be portraying the iconic Muppets character Miss Piggy in the anticipated film. The Oscar-winning actress set the record straight in a new interview, responding directly to the speculation.
Emma Stone reveals if she’s playing Miss Piggy in upcoming movie about Muppets character
Emma Stone has confirmed she is not playing Miss Piggy in the upcoming film she is producing with Jennifer Lawrence. “First of all, that is the biggest insult to Miss Piggy I’ve ever heard, and I will not have her name dragged through the mud like that,” Stone told W Magazine.
“Why would I play a literal star?” she added. Stone further stated, “No, of course I’m not playing Miss Piggy. And neither is Jen. We pale in comparison. Are you out of your mind? Miss Piggy is playing Miss Piggy. She would be storming out right now at the mere suggestion.”
Jennifer Lawrence first announced the project in November during an episode of Las Culturistas, confirming, “Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole [Escola] is writing it.”
On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Lawrence said the idea came during the COVID-19 lockdown, recalling, “One of my good friends, who’s not in the industry, was like… ‘Miss Piggy is a feminist icon.’ And she said, ‘It would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled.’” Lawrence clarified, “That is not the plot,” but said it “got the wheels turning.”
Lawrence noted that Stone is the lead creative on the project: “Emma Stone is the Muppet head,” and confirmed that both she and Stone will appear in the film, stating, “Yeah, I think so… I have to be, so yes.” The film is being written by Cole Escola, known for their work on stage and television, and no release date has been announced.
Stone and Lawrence are producers on the project, but it seems Miss Piggy remains self-cast. Stone emphasized that Miss Piggy “is the greatest,” and that any suggestion of a human actress portraying her is out of the question.
