It surpassed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which held the #2 spot for that same week. The documentary premiered on Netflix on December 30, 2025.

Skye Borgman directed the film, and Leslie Mattingly produced it. The documentary runs for 1 hour and 40 minutes. It examines the case of Utah therapist Jodi Hildebrandt, who faced arrest alongside parenting YouTuber Ruby Franke for child abuse allegations. Netflix classifies the title under Documentary Films, Crime Movies, and True Crime Documentaries.

Evil Influencer features interviews, police footage, and archived material related to the investigation. According to Common Sense Media, “the police work is far more interesting than the numerous and repetitive interviews with Jodi’s broken and regretful victims.” Culture Mix stated, “a very lazy and sloppily edited documentary that re-uses the same footage and recycles the same information that’s in other documentaries about the Jodi Hildebrandt/Ruby Franke child abuse scandal.”

According to one user review, “just repeating itself of things we already know. I was hoping [for] more in-depth things but that wasn’t the case.”
