Man of Tomorrow: James Gunn Talks Major Rewrites & Creative Process

James Gunn is opening up about his creative process as the Man of Tomorrow DCU movie nears production.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Man of Tomorrow will be released in United States theaters in 2027. Directed by Gunn, the movie serves as a follow-up to 2025’s Superman. It will see David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprise their respective roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor.

What did James Gunn say about Man of Tomorrow?

On Threads, Gunn was asked about his creative process. More specifically, he was asked how many takes he usually gets for a single scene when filming and how soon he sends a script to other people involved in a film’s production — whether it gets sent after the first draft is done or if he waits until the final script is completed.

Gunn answered, “I’ve done single takes, and I’ve done sixty. Whatever it takes to get the job done. Usually three or four. And they get the script after it’s been through a few rounds of people – producers and trusted friends – reading and giving feedback. Probably the third or so major rewrite on MoT.”

Man of Tomorrow is expected to begin filming this coming spring, meaning that Gunn and his team are well into the pre-production phase at this point in time. In addition to Corenswet and Hoult, the movie will star Lars Eidinger as Brainiac.

Plot details for the film remain mostly under wraps at this time, though it is known that Man of Tomorrow will see Superman and Lex have to work together to take down a greater threat (presumably Brainiac).

Man of Tomorrow arrives on July 9, 2027. Superman, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on HBO Max. There is also a Superman spin-off TV show centered around Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen that is in the works.
