Fremont (2023) arrives on Hulu very soon

Hulu has confirmed that the 2023 comedy movie Fremont will soon be available to stream on its platform. The film is scheduled to join Hulu’s catalog on January 12, 2026 (via ComicBook).

Directed by Babak Jalali and co-written by Carolina Cavalli, Fremont centers on Donya, a young Afghan immigrant navigating life in Northern California after leaving behind her past. Once a translator for the U.S. military, Donya now works at a fortune cookie factory in San Francisco, where she struggles with loneliness and insomnia.

Living alone in Fremont among a community of fellow Afghan immigrants, Donya’s routine existence takes an unexpected turn when she is promoted to writing the fortunes placed inside the cookies. She uses a fortune cookie to convey a special message of her own.

The film stars Anaita Wali Zada in the lead role as Donya. Other cast members include Gregg Turkington as Dr. Anthony, Jeremy Allen White as Daniel, Hilda Schmelling as Joanna, and Avis See-tho as Fan, among others.

Fremont received strong critical reception following its release. The film currently holds a 98 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 87 reviews. Audience response was also positive, with an 84 percent Popcornmeter rating.

Calum Baker of Radio Times wrote, “Delicately paced and gorgeously shot in black and white, this melancholy film benefits from a deadpan humour, which adds an idiosyncratic flavour to its sensitive study in displacement and yearning.”

Commercially, the film generated modest earnings. It earned approximately $600,000 worldwide, including $271,343 from domestic theaters and $330,251 from international markets, according to Box Office Mojo.
