Delayed Star Wars Project Will Be Worth the Wait, Says Lead Actor
The star of a major returning Star Wars project has opened up about how the new film will set itself apart from previous entries in the franchise. Daisy Ridley revealed that the upcoming Rey movie will venture into new creative territory, exploring her character from a fresh perspective.
Daisy Ridley says that the upcoming Rey movie will be a ‘discovery’
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Daisy Ridley addressed the extended development timeline. She also discussed her perspective on reentering the franchise following 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Ridley said, “I am six years older. I am in a different moment.” She added, “I think the story will be wonderful. I think the wait will be worthwhile.” Addressing Rey’s journey specifically, she stated, “I think it will be a discovery, as all roles are, of where Rey is when we meet her again.”
The Rey movie does not have a confirmed release date and remains one of several Star Wars projects still in development. The project sometimes carries the working title New Jedi Order. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, known for her work on Ms. Marvel, will direct the film. Several writers have joined and exited the project at different stages, and Lucasfilm has not announced any finalized script details.
Conversation about the film has continued as Disney and Lucasfilm prepare for leadership changes in 2026, when Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy are expected to step down. Disney has announced four Star Wars screen projects scheduled for 2026 and Starfighter for 2027, while several additional projects remain undated.
Ridley has also commented on the film’s progress in other interviews. She told Collider, “There’s always movement, but the movement is at the right pace, because the best things are worth the wait.”
Speaking to IGN, she said, “Honestly, there are scripts that I read five years ago, and now I’ve gone, ‘Oh, maybe they will actually happen.’” She added, “With [New Jedi Order] particularly, I know that incredible voices and creatives are part of it, and I know the wait will be worth it.”
