Marvel’s Simu Liu Names His Pick for Wonder Woman, Leaves Fans Divided

Simu Liu has sparked discussion online after suggesting his Copenhagen Test co-star Melissa Barrera for the role of Wonder Woman in James Gunn’s DC Universe. The Marvel actor’s comments have drawn mixed reactions from fans, reigniting ongoing debates around future casting in the evolving DCU.

Simu Liu wants Melissa Barrera to play DCU’s Wonder Woman

During promotion for their new series The Copenhagen Test, Simu Liu endorsed Melissa Barrera as a potential Wonder Woman in the DC Universe.

Speaking about her stunt training, Liu said, “There were a couple of moments during stunt training where I was like, that’s Wonder Woman-esque. I’m just throwing it out there.” He added, “I don’t know who might be listening to this interview, James Gunn or anybody else out there, but I think she really pushes herself.” He emphasized Barrera’s dedication, saying, “She puts in the work… every step of the way, you were like, ‘Let’s go. Let’s keep going. I’m tired, but I don’t care. I’m hurting, but I don’t care.’”

Barrera, who co-stars in The Copenhagen Test, performed most of her own stunts. Liu noted, “She did a lot, most if not all of her own stunts, and she’s just the best.” He also described her as “a spectacular action star in the making” and praised her for showing up fully prepared to film their fight scenes.

James Gunn, head of DC Studios, stated that they have not cast Wonder Woman yet and will not begin discussions until they finish the script. He explained, “It’s a priority but I wouldn’t call that fast-tracked. Nothing is going to be shot unless we’re as sure as we can be that the script is good.”

Fan reactions to Liu’s comments varied on social media. Some users supported the idea, with one stating, “Yeah she looks like Wonder Woman so she would be a fantastic pick,” while another wrote, “YES!!! make Melissa Barrera our DCU Wonder Woman.”

Other users expressed doubt, calling the casting suggestion “forced PR” and claiming Barrera “can’t open a movie.” Another comment noted that Gal Gadot remains a favorite, while some suggested alternative actresses like Adria Arjona.
