James Gunn Teases Man of Tomorrow DCU Movie
James Gunn has shared some new comments about Man of Tomorrow.
Gunn and Peter Safran are in charge of the DCU for Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios. The shared universe began in December 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos series, while it was then followed by Superman and Peacemaker in 2025. Arriving later this year are Supergirl, Lanterns, and Clayface, while a Superman follow-up movie, titled Man of Tomorrow, is dated for 2027.
Directed by Gunn, Man of Tomorrow will see David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprise their respective roles as Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. It has also recently been announced that Lars Eidinger has been cast as the villainous Brainiac in the film.
What did James Gunn say about Man of Tomorrow?
Speaking with Variety, Gunn was asked what he could share about Man of Tomorrow.
“At its core, it’s about Clark and Lex,” Gunn said. “I relate to both of them. I relate to Lex’s ambition and obsession — minus the murder. And I relate to Superman’s belief in people, his Midwestern values. They’re two sides of me.”
Gunn has made similar comments before, as it was already known that Man of Tomorrow will be about Superman and Lex reluctantly having to work together to take down a greater threat. Gunn saying that the “core” of the movie will be about the two of them is interesting, though, as many are also wondering how, if at all, the film will play into the cliffhanger featured at the end of Peacemaker Season 2 involving Checkmate and Salvation. It is known that Frank Grillo will reprise his role as Rick Flag Sr. in the film, though how much screen time he has remains to be seen.
Man of Tomorrow arrives on July 9, 2027. Superman, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
