Southpaw to stream on Paramount+ in 2026
Paramount+ has confirmed that Southpaw, the 2015 boxing drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal, will join its streaming lineup at the start of 2026. According to ComicBook.com, the film is scheduled to become available on the platform on January 1, 2026.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by Kurt Sutter, Southpaw was released in theaters on July 24, 2015. The film centers on Billy Hope, a dominant light-heavyweight boxing champion whose personal life collapses after a tragic incident leads to the death of his wife. Once at the top of his profession, Billy rapidly spirals downward after the devastating loss. He loses his career, his home, and custody of his young daughter.
Determined to rebuild and regain custody of his daughter, Billy turns to Titus Wills, a disciplined former fighter who trains amateur boxers with strict rules. Under Wills’ guidance, Billy begins a slow and difficult process of personal and professional comeback. He fights to regain stability and reunite with his daughter.
Apart from Gyllenhaal in the lead role as Billy Hope, the film has a strong supporting cast. This includes Forest Whitaker as Titus Wills, Rachel McAdams as Maureen Hope, Oona Laurence as Leila Hope, and Naomie Harris as Angela Rivera, among others.
Critically, Southpaw received mixed reviews. It currently holds a 59 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 200 reviews. Meanwhile, audiences have responded more favorably, with a 75 percent Popcornmeter rating.
