Super Mario Star Explains Why Galaxy Fans Will Enjoy Upcoming Sequel
Jack Black, who voices Bowser in the Super Mario films, recently teased that fans of the games will enjoy what The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will offer. In a new interview, he revealed that the upcoming film will include a lot of Easter eggs referencing both the 2007 video game of the same name that the film is adapting and the wider Mario universe. The upcoming film, which will hit theaters next year, will not only feature the return of core characters from the previous film but also introduce new characters.
Jack Black says Super Mario sequel will have ‘tons of Easter eggs’ from 2007 game
In a recent interview with GamesRadar+ in London, Jack Black spoke about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, saying, “There’s tons of Easter eggs, and anyone who loves that universe will be very pleased with the way that it’s been brought to the big screen.”
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which became a massive commercial success at the global box office — grossing $1.3 billion worldwide.
The upcoming film will see Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad go on an adventure in outer space, where they confront Bowser Jr, the son of the evil King of the Koopas, Bowser, who Peach shrank and placed in a jar in the previous film. As seen in the official trailer released last month, the miniaturized Bowser now lives in a tiny fortress inside one of the rooms of Peach’s castle.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will hit theaters in North America on April 3, 2026. It will then premiere in Japan on April 24, 2026. Michael Jelenic and Aaron Horvath directed the film from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel.
Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson will reprise their roles as Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi, Bowser, Toad, and Kamek, respectively. In addition, Oppenheimer star Benny Safdie and Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson join the voice cast as Bowser Jr. and Rosalina.
