The Odyssey Fans Are Angry About Trailer’s Video Quality & Aspect Ratio
The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has sparked a wave of online criticism. Shortly after the footage surfaced, fans began voicing dissatisfaction with how the trailer was presented, focusing on its video quality.
Fans demand The Odyssey trailer in 4k and IMAX aspect ratio
The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey has officially debuted online, but the release has sparked immediate debate among viewers. While anticipation for the film remains high, many fans have voiced frustration with the trailer’s presentation.
Starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, the film follows the legendary Greek hero’s long and dangerous journey home after the Trojan War. In the trailer, he announces, “After years of war … no one could stand between my men … and home … not even me.” Anne Hathaway appears as Penelope, his wife, while Tom Holland is introduced as their son, Telemachus.
The trailer also hints at the film’s wide scope, showcasing Odysseus and his men battling several overwhelming odds as they attempt to return home. Other major cast members, including Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo, do not appear in the footage.
The two-minute trailer has drawn particular attention due to Nolan’s use of newly developed IMAX technology during production. Fans quickly took to the comments section to criticize the online version’s presentation. One user wrote, “WHY WOULD YOU NOT F—— UPLOAD IN 4K ARE YOU CRAZY.” Another added, “1080p and cropped ratio?! Are you f—— kidding me IMAX?! Stand out already!”
Another user commented, “Shot entirely with IMAX, but trailer is in 1080p.” A fourth person wrote, “Imagine filming your movie with the highest quality camera ever invented, and then your marketing team fails to upload the trailer in 4K. LMAO.” One comment also read, “This ain’t the IMAX trailer we needed. Where is the 1.43:1 version??”
The Odyssey is set for a theatrical release on July 17, 2026, in the UK and the US.
