Hugh Jackman’s Acclaimed Oscar Nominated Movie Coming to Prime Video

Hugh Jackman’s Oscar-nominated musical drama Les Misérables is releasing on Amazon Prime Video at the start of the new year, giving audiences a chance to revisit one of the most celebrated film adaptations of the past decade.

Hugh Jackman-led Les Misérables to stream on Prime Video next year

The 2012 epic musical led by Hugh Jackman will start streaming on Prime Video from January 1, 2026, joining a large slate of titles dropping on the platform the same day.

Directed by Tom Hooper, Les Misérables adapts the long-running stage musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, which itself is based on Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. The film stars Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, a former prisoner pursued for decades by the relentless policeman Javert, played by Russell Crowe.

The ensemble cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen, with supporting performances from Samantha Barks, Aaron Tveit, and Daniel Huttlestone. Set in early 19th-century France, the story follows Valjean’s attempt at redemption while protecting Fantine’s daughter, happening as the June Rebellion of 1832 is in progress.

The movie earned generally positive reviews, with particular praise for its direction, large-scale musical numbers, and performances, especially Jackman, Hathaway, and Redmayne. It went on to gross $442.8 million worldwide on a $61 million budget and received eight nominations at the 85th Academy Awards, winning three. The National Board of Review and the American Film Institute also named it among the top ten films of 2012.

Its upcoming Prime Video debut follows the release of a digitally remixed and remastered version that screened in Dolby Cinema in early 2024 to honor the stage musical’s 40th anniversary.

Moreover, alongside Hugh Jackman’s movie, Prime Video will add several major titles on January 1, including Forrest Gump, Bohemian Rhapsody, Mission: Impossible films, Love Actually, and 21 Jump Street, making the start of 2026 a fun date for subscribers (via Comic Book).
