Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars Release Date Delayed for Jacob Elordi Movie

20th Century Studios has shared a new update about The Dogs Stars‘ release date for Ridley Scott‘s newest sci-fi movie. The Jacob Elordi-led adaptation is based on Peter Heller’s bestselling 2012 post-apocalyptic novel of the same name.

When is the new release date for Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars?

Originally scheduled to debut on March 27, 2026, The Dog Stars has now been scheduled to arrive in theaters next summer on August 28, 2026. Its new release date will pit the film against the long-delayed Coyote vs. Acme movie and the Lily James-led Cliffhanger movie.

The movie is directed by Scott from a screenplay written by Mark L. Smith and Christopher Wilkinson. The cast also includes Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Josh Brolin (Dune), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), and Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange). It is executive produced by Heller, Lily Brooks-Dalton, and Brandon Scott Smith, with Scott, Mark L. Smith, Michael Pruss, and Cliff Roberts serving as producers. It is a production by 20th Century Studios and Scott Free.

“After the world’s population has been ravaged by a pandemic, a man lives a lonesome existence in a Colorado airplane hangar with his dog and a dour gunman he has befriended,” reads the synopsis (via Letterboxd). “When a mysterious transmission comes through on the radio while he’s flying his old Cessna, it sparks a hunt for the provenance of the sound.”

At the moment, Elordi is nominated for two Golden Globe awards for his leading performances in The Narrow Road to the Deep North miniseries and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein movie. He will next be seen starring opposite Margot Robbie in the newest film adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Elordi will also be reprising his role as Nate Jacobs in the long-awaited Euphoria Season 3.
