Dwayne Johnson’s The Smashing Machine Sets HBO Max Release Date
A24’s The Smashing Machine is officially coming to HBO Max, with Warner Bros. announcing when the movie will be able to stream at home.
When does The Smashing Machine come out on HBO Max?
The Smashing Machine will release on HBO Max on January 23, 2026, when the film will be available to stream on the platform. Originally released in September, The Smashing Machine is written and directed by Benny Safdie.
The film stars Dwayne Johnson in the role of Mark Kerr, a former amateur wrestler and MMA fighter, with the film chronicling his life and struggles with addiction and his relationship. Although the film received mixed reviews, Johnson’s role in the film was praised, with his name popping up as a favorite to be nominated for several awards during award season.
The ensemble cast also includes Emily Blunt as Dawn Staples, Lyndsey Gavin as Elizabeth Coleman, Oleksandr Usyk as Igor Vovchanchyn, Ryan Bader as Mark Coleman, Satoshi Ishii as Enson Inoue, James Moontasri as Akira Shoji, Yoko Hamamura as Kazuyuki Fujita, and more. In addition to leading the cast, Johnson is also producing alongside Eli Bush, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, David Koplan, and Safdie, with Tracey Landon serving as an executive producer.
This marks Johnson and Blunt’s second collaboration after previously starring together in Disney’s 2021 adventure movie Jungle Cruise. Besides the Benny Safdie-directed movie, they will once again reunite for a Martin Scorsese movie about a real-life mob boss who was the leader of the largest organized crime syndicate on the Hawaiian Islands.
