Marvel Announces The Fantastic Four: First Steps Prequel, Release Date Set
A prequel to The Fantastic Four: First Steps has been announced.
Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps was released in United States theaters this past July. Directed by Matt Shakman, the MCU film stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch.
It has previously been confirmed that Pascal, Kirby, Moss-Bachrach, and Quinn will all return in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars; however, Marvel has now announced another project that will feature their respective Fantastic Four characters.
What is The Fantastic Four: First Steps prequel?
Per The Direct, Marvel Comics has announced a new Fantastic Four: First Steps prequel comic titled Fantastic Four: First Foes. Written by Dan Slot and illustrated by Mark Buckingham, the one-shot will be released on March 4, 2026.
The logline for the comic reads, “As the Fantastic Four rise to become the heroes we know today, the Mad Thinker becomes determined to get his proper due by turning the city of tomorrow against its heroic patrons!”

The Direct’s article further notes, “Alongside the battle with the Mad Thinker, the comic will feature an original two-page Fantastic Sciencestrip written by Ryan North (the current writer of Fantastic Four comics), emulating the educational television program that Reed Richards hosts in his Marvel universe. Fantastic Four: First Foes will be the first of four quarterly in-universe comic stories, releasing throughout 2026. Each of these new stories will tie into the characters and world of the movie, expanding on moments or characters featured in First Steps.”
There was already a different First Steps prequel comic, titled Fantastic Four: First Steps #1, that was released last July, shortly before the movie came out. That story was written by Matt Fraction with art by Buckingham.
