Fans love Lars Eidinger’s Brainiac casting in Man of Tomorrow
James Gunn took to social media to announce the casting of Brainiac in his upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. In his post consisting of an image of Lars Eidinger and another of Brainiac, Gunn wrote, “In our worldwide search for Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow, Lars Eidinger rose to the top. Welcome to the DCU, Lars.” While the post served as an announcement for the character’s casting, it also officially confirmed that the character will appear in the film.
The casting drew significant fan attention, with the majority expressing confidence in the selection. “He looks like he’ll make a great Brainiac! Good choice!” a fan wrote. Another fan replied, writing, “Brainiac needs menace and intellect—Eidinger can absolutely sell both. This could be special.” A third user wrote, “Eidinger is phenomenal casting. Can’t wait to see his take on Brainiac!”

Gunn also replied to a fan’s question on Threads about whether there is a particular version of Brainiac that he is taking inspiration from. “I love aspects of many versions of the characters, from the 1950’s Binder stuff to the surprisingly scary Wolfman stuff to the animated versions and up through the truly creepy and wonderful, current Absolute Brainiac,” the Guardians of the Galaxy director wrote.
While replying to another fan, Gunn further revealed that Eidinger’s audition for the character stood out to him.
Notably, Man of Tomorrow has a release date of July 9, 2027.
