Quaritch’s Surprising Fate in Avatar 3 Confirmed in New Video Game DLC
A new update connected to the Avatar franchise has surfaced through an unexpected source. The latest DLC expansion for Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora offers additional context tied to recent events in the film series. The new DLC expansion, titled From the Ashes, for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora released on the same day as Avatar: Fire and Ash. The expansion introduces a fresh storyline within the game, featuring new missions and boss fights against the RDA and the Ash Clan.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora reveals what happens to Quaritch after Fire and Ash ending
In a post-credits voice clip at the end of the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – From the Ashes DLC, players hear a conversation between Colonel Miles Quaritch and the RDA’s Tyler Bukowski. Over the radio, Quaritch issues orders to Bukowski just as the title appears on screen, telling him that “it’s time to regroup and reassess.”
Meanwhile, at the end of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the film shows hand-to-hand combat between Quaritch and Jake Sully. Sully ultimately saves Quaritch’s life, after which the colonel jumps from a rock into the flux and escapes from the Sully clan, who would likely have captured or killed him. Because the game’s events are considered canon to the films, the post-credits audio clip provides additional insight into Quaritch’s status following the movie’s ending.
While the film leaves Quaritch’s fate unresolved, the game offers a hint at what may come next in the franchise. James Cameron reportedly filmed the ending in August, though the exact timing of the DLC’s post-credits addition remains unclear. Cameron also revealed in a recent interview with THR (The Hollywood Reporter) that the future of the franchise depends on the box office performance and reception of Avatar: Fire and Ash. He explained that he planned the ending in a way that allows the franchise to conclude if necessary.
“This can be the last one,” Cameron said. “There’s only one unanswered question in the story. We may find that the release of Avatar 3 proves how diminished the cinematic experience is these days, or we may find it proves the case that it’s as strong as it ever was, but only for certain types of films. It’s a coin toss right now. We won’t know until the middle of January.”
