Underrated Guy Ritchie War Movie Is Killing It on Streaming Charts Globally
Director Guy Ritchie‘s 2023 movie The Covenant has become a big success on HBO Max. The Covenant debuted in theaters on April 21, 2023. However, despite being critically acclaimed, the movie didn’t make an impact at the box office. The film features stars like Jake Gyllenhaal, Antony Starr, Dar Salim, and Alexander Ludwig, among others.
Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant garners massive viewership on HBO Max
The Covenant, directed by Guy Ritchie, is finding an audience on the streaming platform HBO Max.
According to a report by Flix Patrol, The Covenant has claimed the eighth spot in the top 10 movies chart on HBO Max on December 19, 2025. Made on a reported budget of $55 million, The Covenant opened in 2,611 theatres to around $6 million. Overall in the domestic market, The Covenant made over $16 million, and internationally it grossed $5 million. This brought the lifetime collection of the movie to $21 million, making it one of the biggest box office flops of that year.
Although the film failed to be a big hit at the box office, critics and audiences generally gave the film positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, The Covenant currently sits with a score of 82 percent on the Tomatometer based on critic reviews. Better still, on the Popcornmeter, the movie holds a very high score of 98 percent based on audience reviews, making it director Guy Ritchie’s highest-scoring movie on the review aggregate website.
At the time of the film’s release, star Jake Gyllenhaal spoke to ComingSoon‘s Tyler Treese. Speaking about Ritchie’s directing, Gyllenhaal said, “Guy is so agile as a filmmaker, he asks for that agility from his performers as well and from his whole crew. He has so many incredible techniques and weapons at his disposal because he’s been working for so long. The process was just an incredible process of discovery. I loved doing it that way, and I loved working with him.”
