What else do we know about Tom Cruise’s Digger movie?
Plot details for Digger remain under wraps at this time, and the teaser trailer doesn’t offer much insight into what the story will be. The footage only shows a character — presumably Cruise, though his face remains hidden — dancing around with a shovel.
Warner Bros. describes Digger as a “comedy of catastrophic proportions,” while the tagline states, “In Digger we trust,” but those are the only real clues given so far regarding what Iñárritu and Cruise might have in store for audiences.
Per Variety, Digger will be released in United States theaters on October 2, 2026.
Shot in the United Kingdom, Digger is Iñárritu’s first English-language film since 2015’s The Revenant, which won Leonardo DiCaprio his first Best Actor Academy Award. Iñárritu wrote the screenplay for Digger with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Sabina Berman.
Iñárritu is perhaps best known for directing 2014’s Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), as that movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Beyond that and The Revenant, Iñárritu’s filmography also includes 2000’s Amores Perros, 2003’s 21 Grams, 2006’s Babel, 2010’s Biutiful, and 2022’s Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths.
Cruise, meanwhile, is coming off 2025’s Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. Digger marks Cruise’s first film with Warner Bros. Discovery, the company he signed a deal with to develop original and franchise films this past January, since 2015’s Edge of Tomorrow.
