Colman Domingo Wants To Be in MCU Only on 1 Condition

Colman Domingo, who has been garnering attention in recent years for roles in projects like Euphoria, Rustin, and The Color Purple, recently revealed his one condition for joining the MCU. In a new interview, the actor revealed that he would join live-action Marvel if he got to play a villain.

Domingo, who has yet to appear in live-action Marvel projects, entered the Marvel world earlier this year by voicing Norman Osborn in the Disney+ animated series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

In a recent interview with The Direct, Colman Domingo was asked which particular character or type of character he was interested in playing in the MCU. The Madness actor responded by revealing his interest in taking on a villainous role.

“Villains. I think I’m meant to play a villain,” Domingo replied. “I don’t know why — and I think I’m such a lovable person.” He added that playing a villain is “more interesting” since they are “more complex.” Domingo further stated, “I think the idea of getting the audience to pull a tear on a villain is interesting to me.”

He then elaborated on his desire to play a villain, stressing that he could “tap into their humanity.” The two-time Academy Award nominee explained that by playing a villain, he could explore their motive for causing harm and desire to be powerful and stronger than others. Domingo emphasized that this aspect of villains made them “more complicated” and “more interesting” than a hero. “I mean, I don’t know, I feel like… Let’s make it happen. Let’s do it,” he added.

Notably, Colman Domingo was once rumored to be replacing Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU after Disney and Marvel Studios cut ties with the latter. Earlier this year, Domingo confirmed on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast that he had discussions with Marvel Studios about the Kang rumors and the wider Marvel universe. However, he expressed his disinterest in taking over a role previously played by someone else and his desire “to build something from the ground up that [was his] own.”
