Emma Mackey Teases White Witch Role in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia Movie

Emma Mackey has recently spoke about her upcoming role as the White Witch in Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.

What did Emma Mackey say about her White Witch role?

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Mackey was asked what she might be able to talk about when it comes to her transformation as the White Witch. Predictably, Mackey joked that not much could be said, but that she was extremely excited about the movie.

“What do you think?” Mackey joked. “Nada! But I’m very excited, I mean beyond happy, to be working with Greta again, and to be telling this story…I think people are in for a treat, I think it’s going to be wonderful.”

Plot details for Gerwig’s first Narnia remain mostly under wraps at this time. No casting has been officially announced. However, Casino Royale’s Daniel Craig has received an offer to join the cast that he has not publicly accepted or passed on yet. It is unclear who he would play in the movie. Charli XCX is also in talks for the role of the White Witch.

In addition to Barbie, Gerwig co-directed 2008’s Nights and Weekends with Joe Swanberg before she then went on to helm 2017’s Lady Bird and 2019’s Little Women. She has also worked on the scripts for movies like 2012’s Frances Ha, 2015’s Mistress America, and more.

Gerwig’s Narnia will get a two-week IMAX global run in November 2026. The movie will then come to Netflix on Christmas 2026.
