Thunderbolts* Star Sebastian Stan Reveals Status of 2nd Movie

Sebastian Stan recently addressed the possibility of a Thunderbolts* sequel. In an appearance at Tokyo Comic-Con 2025, the Marvel star stressed that the chances of a Thunderbolts* 2 happening hinged on fan support. The original film was released on May 2, 2025, and although it received positive reviews, it underperformed at the box office.

The A Different Man actor also touched upon his time filming the first film. He said that he enjoyed making it as the cast and crew were not only a “great group of people” but also “very funny” individuals. “David Harbour [and] Wyatt Russell [are very funny] and Florence Pugh [is] really very talented,” he added. “It was just a good time.”

Thunderbolts* 2 has not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios as of writing. However, fans will not need to wait too long for the Thunderbolts to show up on the big screen again, since the team, now known as the New Avengers, is confirmed to appear in next year’s highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. In the upcoming MCU film, the group is poised to join forces with the main Avengers team, Fantastic Four, and X-Men in confronting Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Moreover, the post-credits scene of Thunderbolts* has teased a subplot involving the team in Doomsday. This subplot will see them feuding with Captain America’s Avengers after Sam Wilson sues the New Avengers for trademark infringement. The scene also teases the arrival of the MCU’s Fantastic Four in their universe.

Thunderbolts* is currently streaming on Disney+. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts an 88% fresh score on the Tomatometer. It also has a 93% audience score on the Popcornmeter.

Jake Schreier directed the film from a screenplay written by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo. Besides Stan, Pugh, Harbour, and Russell, the film also stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lewis Pullman, and Hannah John-Kamen, among many others.
