Scream 7 Originally Ended With Billy’s Daughter Becoming Ghostface
While the long-awaited Scream 7 will feature the return of franchise veteran Neve Campbell, the original plans for the sequel were significantly different, as per Skeet Ulrich. The 55-year-old actor, who portrayed serial killer Billy Loomis in 1996’s Scream, revealed in a recent interview that the upcoming seventh part was initially going to conclude a trilogy that started with the fifth installment in the series and ended with his film daughter taking on the mantle of Ghostface.
Skeet Ulrich says his Scream return originally entailed for ‘a three-picture arc for Billy Loomis’
Speaking about the recently released Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the Jericho alum confirmed that the initial plan for his return in 2022’s Scream was to set up a trilogy.
Talking about if he’ll reprise his role of Billy in Scream 7, Skeet Ulrich noted to Entertainment Weekly, “I’ve been vocal about that. I’m not. When we talked about coming back for 5, it was a three-picture arc for Billy Loomis to slowly turn his daughter into the killer. Obviously, those things didn’t pan out, given certain things that happened. But, no, I know nothing about the seventh.”
Ulrich’s character met his end in the 1996 movie itself, with Billy Loomis dying after an altercation with Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott. However, after Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin took over the directorial responsibilities from Wes Craven in 2022, they decided to bring back Billy in ghost form to help his daughter, Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera).
As per Skeet Ulrich, the original plans for Scream 7 would’ve not only featured Billy Loomis’ return but would’ve also seen Sam turn into the iconic Ghostface by the end of the film. Nevertheless, multiple scheduling conflicts and off-screen controversies ultimately led to the departure of the two directors, as well as Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega.
Now helmed by Kevin Williamson, Scream 7 is set to hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
