Tom Cruise Clashed With David Ellison Over Mission: Impossible Budget — Report

Tom Cruise is no stranger for fighting for his films, and in a recent report, it was revealed that Cruise and Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison clashed over the budget of Mission: Impossible.

What did Tom Cruise and David Ellison clash about?

In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter on the state of Paramount, it was noted that the seemingly great relationship between Ellison and Cruise has been rocky at times. According to two separate sources, THR noted that Cruise was “unhappy” with Ellison after former Paramount CEO Brian Robbins came on board the company in 2021.

During a meeting about the final two Mission: Impossible movies, Cruise said he needed “tens of millions” of dollars in extra production funds. When Ellison suggested that Cruise “find some of the money on his own,” THR reports that Cruise began not attending production or marketing meetings if Ellison was there. Eventually, Paramount acquiesced to Cruise, and the company says no rift between the two ever existed.

Now, Cruise is still in business with the company, and hoping to get a third Top Gun movie going, according to the report. He also is still trying to get funding for his reported deep-sea thriller movie, which Warner Bros. and Universal have passed on.

THR’s report mentions that Cruise recently went to the Paramount lot in order to “pay his respects” to the company, so it’s unclear where the situation stands as of now. Ellison is also reported to be looking to acquire Warner Bros., a move that would also push Cruise to be as friendly as possible with the man.
