Men in Black 5 Finds Writer, Will Smith’s Current Status Revealed

A new Men in Black 5 update has arrived, hinting at the future of the franchise and what Will Smith’s potential involvement could be.

What do we know about Men in Black 5?

According to a new report from Deadline, Sony Pictures is looking to bring back the Men in Black franchise. The move comes following the success of bringing back the Bad Boys franchise in 2020’s Bad Boys For Life and 2024’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Deadline notes that no talent is attached to the project as of yet, but that Bad Boys For Life writer Chris Bremner is on board to write the script for a fifth movie.

As far as Will Smith goes, the star hasn’t officially signed on, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be involved. Deadline notes that Smith would be one of the first people to get their hands on the new script, which will reportedly include his character. With that in mind, the hopes would be that he would be up to reprising his role as Agent J. The report notes that Smith hasn’t committed to anything, and wouldn’t until he’s able to look at the script.

The Men in Black franchise began in 1997, with a film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and starring Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. The film franchise center around the titular “men in black,” a group of secret agents who monitor the world for extraterrestrials, who also live on Earth in secret.

The first film spawned off a franchise, with a sequel in 2002 starring Smith and Jones again, and a third film in 2012 starring the pair as well. A fourth film, Men in Black: International, was released in 2019 starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, but the film was not received well.
