Leonardo DiCaprio Turns Down Netflix Movie Sequel Despite Reported Huge Payday
Leonardo DiCaprio turned down an offer to star in a Netflix movie despite reports that he would have been paid handsomely to do so.
DiCaprio recently played Bob Ferguson in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. In recent years, he’s also starred as Hugh Glass in 2015’s The Revenant, Rick Dalton in 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Dr. Randall Mindy in 2021’s Don’t Look Up, and Ernest Burkhart in 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
What Netflix movie did Leonardo DiCaprio turn down?
David Fincher is currently working on The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which serves as a spin-off to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Brad Pitt will reprise his role as the titular character in the film, while the cast also includes Timothy Olyphant, Scott Caan, Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and more.
Many have been wondering if DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton will also appear in The Adventures of Cliff Booth. The actor has now confirmed to Deadline that he is not part of the movie’s cast.
“There were some talks about it early on,” DiCaprio said. “Ultimately, I cannot wait to see the Cliff Booth story, but I’m not in it. I think David Fincher’s the perfect man for the job. Quentin is a huge fan of his work, I’m a huge fan of his work, and there’s nobody better to carry on that lineage and tell that story. I think it’s the next phase of Cliff Booth’s life. I’m excited to see it.”
In April 2025, The InSneider’s Jeff Sneider said on an episode of The Hot Mic that DiCaprio was “dragging his feet” a bit in making a deal to appear in The Adventures of Cliff Booth due to a pay dispute. Sneider said that DiCaprio was offered $3 million for one day of filming; however, the actor typically makes anywhere from $20-25 million for a standard role in a movie.
A release date for The Adventures of Cliff Booth has not yet been announced, though the film is expected to arrive at some point in 2026.
