Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Gets Shocking Box Office Projections
The box office projections for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 are starting to roll in, and the numbers are shocking.
What is the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 box office projection?
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 opens in theaters on December 5, 2025. Per Variety, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is projected to open between $35 million and $40 million at the domestic box office. With a rumored budget of $51 million, those opening projections signal a great start for the horror sequel.
However, those projected numbers pale in comparison to the opening weekend of the first movie. Released in 2023, Five Nights at Freddy’s overperformed significantly, opening to $80 million at the domestic box office. Keep in mind that Five Nights at Freddy’s received a day-and-date release, meaning it opened in theaters and streamed on Peacock simultaneously.
Five Nights at Freddy’s grossed $297.1 million worldwide, the highest total in Blumhouse history. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is unlikely to match the box-office numbers of the first movie. However, the sequel should still generate a profit for Blumhouse and Universal.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 picks up one year after the horrifying events at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Surprisingly, the animatronic creatures have become local legends, leading the town to create Fazfest.
The returning cast features Josh Hutcherson as Mike, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa, Piper Rubio as Abby, Theodus Crane as Jeremiah, and Matthew Lillard as William Afton. New cast members include Freddy Carter, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, and Skeet Ulrich.
“Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends,” the official synopsis reads. “But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.”
Emma Tammi directs the sequel from a screenplay by Scott Cawthon, based on Cawthon’s video game franchise Five Nights at Freddy’s. Cawthon and Jason Blum are producers.
