Timothée Chalamet Claims Adam Sandler Should’ve Won an Oscar

Timothée Chalamet and Adam Sandler recently sat down for an interview, wherein they discussed many of each other’s works. While doing so, Chalamet went on to comment that Adam Sandler was “one of our greats,” and claimed that the Uncut Gems star should have won an Oscar.

During a recent sit-down with Vanity Fair, Timothée Chalamet spoke about Punch Drunk Love, Adam Sandler’s quirky 2002 romcom with Emily Watson.

He said, “Really, before I ask you anything, I will say, to actors across all ages, but really, to my generation, it is one of the most important performances, important isn’t even the right word. It’s like impactful, deeply moving,” Chalamet said about Sandler’s role on Punch Drunk Love.

Chalamet continued, “I think, because you’ve ascended to such commercial heights—and I hope I don’t make you uncomfortable by talking like this—that the people that aren’t really in the know, like don’t understand how impactful that performance was and how incredible and nuanced and deeply lived in and heartbreaking it is.” He added that it was especially impressive because it was quite a big change for Sandler.

Chalamet acknowledged that it was not all about awards, but added, “And at risk of repeating myself, in the context of all the comedic work you did, I went, ‘Holy s—, this guy’s one of our greats.’ I know it’s not about awards, blah, blah, blah, but you should have a golden man in your hand because man, you’re one of the best f—— actors on the planet, man.”

The comments drew heavy applause from the viewers as Sandler thanked Chalamet for the kind words.

Timothée Chalamet will appear in Marty Supreme, which hits theaters on Christmas Day, while Adam Sandler recently starred in Jay Kelly, which premieres on Netflix on December 5, 2025.
