Sonic Spin-off & TMNT Movie Get 2028 Release Dates

A new Sonic the Hedgehog movie and an upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) film have set release dates.

Paramount Pictures recently announced plans to make a new live-action TMNT movie centered around everybody’s four favorite heroes in a half shell. While not much is known about the new TMNT project, it stands apart from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem series, as a sequel to that animated movie is being released on September 17, 2027.

Sonic, meanwhile, has proven to be a big money-maker for Paramount. Following the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, a fourth film is currently slated to arrive on March 19, 2027.

What are the release dates for the new Sonic and TMNT movies?

Per Variety, Paramount has now announced the new live-action/CGI hybrid TMNT movie will be released on November 17, 2028. Neal H. Moritz, who is heavily involved in the Sonic franchise, will produce the new TMNT flick.

As for Sonic, an untitled “Sonic Universe Event Film” has now been dated for December 22, 2028. Whether or not this winds up being Sonic the Hedgehog 5 or if there’s something bigger in the works for Paramount’s Sonic franchise remains to be seen. Plot details for both projects remain under wraps at this time.

It’s been widely speculated that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will involve time travel, as many believe that the movie will take inspiration from the 1993 Sonic the Hedgehog CD platform game. With Amy Rose and Metal Sonic having shown up in the mid-credit scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, fans are expecting them to play a prominent role in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 as well, meaning they could play into whatever the “Sonic Universe Event Film” is. There have also been rumors swirling around about future plans for Shadow, who was voiced by Keanu Reeves in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
