Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 Will Be ‘Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader,’ Says Matthew Lillard

Matthew Lillard has some exciting details regarding a potential Five Nights at Freddy’s 3.

Lillard plays William Afton in the Five Nights at Freddy’s film franchise. Based on the popular video game series by Scott Cawthon, the first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie was released in October 2023, while Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 arrives in United States theaters next week.

What did Matthew Lillard say about Five Nights at Freddy’s 3?

Speaking with ComingSoon in an exclusive interview, Lillard shared that, if Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is a hit at the box office, a third movie will give fans a “William Afton vs. Mike” showdown.

“Don’t hold your breath to seeing a lot of William Afton [in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2],” Lillard said. “Like Star Wars or like Harry Potter, Voldemort or Darth Vader, they both sort of show up later in the series. So, unfortunately for me, I don’t have a huge part in it. I do think the stuff I get to do is fantastic. I love it. Our hope is that we get to do three films. That’s always been the plan. Everything is dependent on how the movie does in theaters.

“…We’ll get that final Harry Potter vs. Voldemort or Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader [in Five Nights at Freddy’s 3]. That’s our hope. Within that, we’ll get to do that and explore more. For now, we’ve got a long way to go; we’ve got to get people into the theaters.”

Both Five Nights at Freddy’s and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 are directed by Emma Tammi. The cast of the new movie also includes Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa Shelly, Piper Rubio as Abby Schmidt, Theodus Crane as Jeremiah, Mckenna Grace as Lisa, and more.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 arrives on December 5, 2025, from Universal Pictures.
