Young Dom Series & 2 More Fast & Furious TV Shows Were Considered

Plans for expanding the Fast & Furious universe once included three separate TV shows. Recent details reveal how Universal explored stories centered on young Dom, Han, and the duo Roman and Tej, offering a rare look at what could have extended the long-running franchise beyond the big screen.

Three Fast & Furious TV shows that never happened

Universal Pictures considered developing three Fast & Furious live-action TV shows, according to the book Welcome To The Family. These included series focused on Roman and Tej, young Dominic Toretto, and Han. These concepts followed the conclusion of Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, an animated Netflix series about Dom’s cousin. That show aired from 2019 to 2021 and ran for six seasons.

Universal aimed to use the new shows as Peacock exclusives. According to the book, the studio planned to “bulk up the catalogue” of the platform “as it struggled to survive the raging streaming wars.” The book does not name any attached talent or confirm if development is still ongoing. It describes the Roman and Tej show only as a “standalone show” and does not mention Tyrese Gibson or Ludacris.

Universal designed the young Dom show to continue the flashback timeline from F9. The show would have cast Vinnie Bennett, who played young Dom in that film. It would have followed Dom’s life leading up to The Fast and the Furious (2001). The book does not confirm if Bennett had a deal to return. The book also does not clarify whether filmmakers planned to bring back Azia Dinea Hale, Siena Agudong, Karson Kern, and Igby Rigney or recast their roles as the younger versions of Letty, Mia, Vince, and Jesse.

The Han series reached the most advanced stage of development. Universal based the concept on Vin Diesel’s short film Los Bandoleros. The story would have followed Han in a Yojimbo-style conflict between two rival drug cartels and included Cara, Han’s former partner from Fast & Furious (2009). The production team explored filming in Puerto Rico before the project stalled. Universal has not publicly confirmed or commented on these shows.
