Knives Out 3 Director Reveals Which Iconic Actor He Wants To Cast Next
Rian Johnson, the writer-director of all three Knives Out movies, has named the next iconic Oscar-winning actor he wants in these projects. Notably, the film series has a revolving door cast. Only Daniel Craig, who plays Detective Benoit Blanc, appears in the same role. Noah Segan and Joseph Gordon-Levitt appear in all the movies, including Knives Out 3, but play different characters each time. The rest of the cast is made up of new ensemble high-profile actors.
Rian Johnson wants Meryl Streep to appear in a Knives Out film
Johnson said in a new interview with Variety that he wanted Meryl Streep to join the cast of a Knives Out movie. “I feel like Meryl Streep would kill it. She was born to be in one of these movies; she’s hilarious,” the filmmaker said at a special screening for the most recent Knives Out movie — Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery — before admitting, “I don’t know her at all.”
However, Kerry Washington, who plays Vera Draven in Wake Up Dead Man, has previously worked with Streep in the 2020 musical comedy feature The Prom. The Scandal actress declared that she would help out with the casting. “You ask people about what it’s like to be in these movies, and everybody says it’s just a dream, so I would encourage her,” she said.
Knives Out came out in 2019, and its cast included Chris Evans as Ransom Drysdale, Ana de Armas as Marta Cabrera, Jamie Lee Curtis as Linda Drysdale, and Toni Collette as Joni Thrombey. Meanwhile, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery debuted in 2022, featuring Edward Norton as Miles Bron, Kate Hudson as Birdie Jay, Dave Bautista as Duke Cody, and more.
As for Wake Up Dead Man, its cast includes Josh O’Connor as Rev. Jud Duplenticy, Glenn Close as Martha Delacroix, and Josh Brolin as Msgr. Jefferson Wicks. The movie is currently in select theaters. It will debut on Netflix on December 12, 2025.
