A recent update on James Cameron’s landmark blockbuster has shifted attention to its upcoming streaming debut on Netflix. The report outlines when viewers can expect the film to arrive on the platform as part of the service’s December lineup. Interest continues to rise as the Oscar-winning epic prepares to reach a new wave of audiences.
Titanic begins streaming on Netflix in December
James Cameron’s Titanic (1997) begins streaming on Netflix in the United States on December 16, 2025.
The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater, two passengers from different social classes who fall in love during the RMS Titanic’s ill-fated maiden voyage. The film was originally released on December 19, 1997, and went on to win 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Netflix confirmed the film’s release date as part of its official What’s Coming to Netflix in December 2025 announcement. The streaming debut joins a lineup that includes licensed titles such as The Wolf of Wall Street, Pulp Fiction, and Downton Abbey, as well as original releases like Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, and Emily in Paris Season 5.
At the time of its production, Titanic ranked as the most expensive film ever made, with a $200 million budget. It grossed over $1.84 billion during its original release and earned more than $2.26 billion worldwide through later re-releases. In 2017, the Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the United States National Film Registry, citing it as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
The film blends historical and fictional narratives, depicting real-life figures such as Captain Edward Smith, J. Bruce Ismay, and Margaret “Molly” Brown alongside the fictional love story between Jack and Rose. The production included footage captured during dives to the actual Titanic wreck. It also incorporated practical effects, scale models, and CGI to recreate the ship and its sinking.
Netflix will stream Titanic alongside multiple holiday-themed films, original stand-up specials, and global series premieres. Other major releases on December 16 include Castle Rock (Seasons 1–2) and Season 2 of the Korean reality series Culinary Class Wars.
