The Beatles Movies Find Its ‘Fifth Beatle’ in Game of Thrones Alum

Sony Pictures has officially tapped a new cast member for the highly anticipated The Beatles biopic, which hails from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes (American Beauty, 1917). The four-film cinematic event is expected to be released in April 2028.

“Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary,” reads the biopic’s official synopsis.

Who is joining The Beatles movies?

According to Variety, Game of Thrones star Harry Lloyd has been enlisted to portray the key role of legendary music producer George Martin in The Beatles movies. Martin was commonly referred to as the band’s fifth member due to his extensive involvement in all of the band’s original albums. Throughout his 60-year career, he has won six Grammy Awards. Besides The Beatles, he has also worked with other famous artists such as Kenny Rogers, Elton John, and Celine Dion.

The Beatles biopic will be led by Paul Mescal (Aftersun) as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) as George Harrison, Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) as Ringo Starr, and Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw) as John Lennon. Joining them are Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai (Shogun) as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood (The White Lotus) as Pattie Boyd, Mia McKenna-Bruce (Get Even) as Maureen Starkey, and James Norton (Little Women) as Brian Epstein.

The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event is being directed by Sam Mendes, with Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne writing the scripts. Each movie will center around the story of one member. The four-picture event is produced by Mendes, Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor, and Alexandra Derbyshire. Production is currently underway and is expected to last until late 2026.
