Jumanji 3’s Dwayne Johnson Shows Easter Egg Paying Tribute to Robin Williams

Dwayne Johnson has officially kicked off production for Jumanji 3, and in honor of that, he paid tribute to the franchise’s original star, Robin Williams. As filming begins in Los Angeles, Johnson shared a special behind-the-scenes video revealing a meaningful Easter egg connected to the late actor’s iconic 1995 performance.

As cameras roll on the upcoming Jumanji 3 movie, Dwayne Johnson is celebrating the franchise’s legacy by honoring the man who started it all. Johnson shared a “little day one of Jumanji excitement” video from the Universal Studios lot, revealing that his character, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, will wear a necklace featuring the dice from the original 1995 Jumanji, starring Robin Williams.

“This is the dice from the original Jumanji with Robin Williams, as a show of respect and a way of honoring Robin and this entire franchise that he started, as we film our very last Jumanji, the big finale,” Johnson explained.

The excitement spiked again when the official Jumanji Instagram account shared the first cast photo since production began. Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Dwayne Johnson, and Jack Black appear in costume. They are seen standing against a city backdrop with the caption: “Look who’s on the loose.”

Moreover, the post teases a major new direction: the video game avatars are now entering the real world. This lines up with Jumanji: The Next Level’s post-credits scene. In it, the ostriches from the game appear in the real world after a repairman accidentally triggers the console.

All in all, Johnson reunites with director Jake Kasdan and co-stars Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. Production for the new sequel has officially begun in Los Angeles on November 11, 2025. This movie follows the box-office successes Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019). Sony has scheduled the movie for a December 11, 2026, theatrical release.
