Blockbuster 2014 Monster Movie & Its Sequel Set Netflix Streaming Date

Netflix has announced the streaming date for two major films in the MonsterVerse arriving on the platform in early December. The highly anticipated additions mark the titles’ official debut on the service. They follow their theatrical success, wide audience reach, and continued relevance within their respective franchises.

Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters begin streaming on Netflix in December

Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters begin streaming on Netflix on December 1 as part of the platform’s scheduled arrivals for December 2025 in the United States.

Gareth Edwards directs Godzilla (2014), which introduces the Monsterverse version of the character as the last surviving member of a prehistoric superspecies. The film shows the creature emerging when other ancient organisms threaten global stability. Netflix includes Godzilla in its first wave of December releases, a group that combines licensed films, dramas, and seasonal programming.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), directed and co-written by Michael Dougherty, begins streaming on December 1. The film advances the Monsterverse storyline as Monarch faces the global awakening of Titans, including King Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra. The release increases Godzilla’s height from the 2014 measurement and gives him a formal scientific designation within Monarch’s system. Legendary Pictures produced the third Monsterverse film with an ensemble cast connected to Monarch’s research team.

The Monsterverse designers kept Godzilla visually consistent with the original Toho version. They added gills and structural changes to support underwater movement. In King of the Monsters, they enlarged his dorsal plates and altered his proportions to emphasize predatory features. Both films show Godzilla as a territorial apex creature whose reappearance aligns with major ecological shifts.

Netflix features both Monsterverse entries on December 1. The platform also adds titles such as A League of Their Own, As Good as It Gets, The Wolf of Wall Street, Downton Abbey, Grantchester, Rio, and Zero Dark Thirty. Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters lead this group of early December arrivals as Netflix opens its final-month lineup for 2025.
