Jon M. Chu addressed one of the most persistent questions surrounding the Wicked franchise as the series approaches the release of its second film. Jon M. Chu talks Wicked 3 ideas

Jon M. Chu addressed ongoing questions about a potential third Wicked film during a new round of promotional interviews. When asked about a follow up to Wicked: For Good, he said there are “a lot of ideas flying around right now.” He then added, “We will see. Let’s enjoy this ride first.”

Bowen Yang discussed the same topic at the Wicked: For Good premiere during an interview with Variety. He said, “I think we leave it here,” when asked if he thought the series should continue. He then joked about a spinoff idea, explaining, “I am going to pitch a Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead story with my and Bronwyn James’ characters, Pfannee and ShenShen.”

Ariana Grande also reacted to speculation about Wicked 3 during a recent Q and A. She shared a clip on Instagram saying, “If we have learned anything from Cher, we can count on there always being another farewell tour. So I do not think anyone is going anywhere.” When pressed for confirmation, she laughed and said she did not know about that.

Michelle Yeoh supported the possibility of returning. In a new interview she said she would agree immediately, adding, “Why would I ever say no to Jon.”

Chu directs both Wicked and Wicked: For Good, which adapts the second act of the stage production. Reports noted that the duology ends where the Broadway show ends and stated that there are currently no expectations for a third film moving forward. When asked what a third story might be about, Chu responded, “What is it about,” before acknowledging ongoing discussions.

Bowen Yang also spoke about Grande’s upcoming Saturday Night Live appearance. He said, “I cannot wait. I am so glad that we have her presence there,” and added that Cher is his “dream host.” He noted Grande’s Cher impression and said he wants to pitch a “Cher Family Reunion” sketch.
