What happens in the Moana live-action teaser trailer?

The new live-action teaser trailer doesn’t show off too much, but does preview the film’s opening song as well as giving a brief look at Johnson’s Maui. In the trailer, Moana can be seen getting ready for her journey while Maui dives into the ocean before turning into a bird.

Alongside Laga’aia and Johnson, the Moana live-action movie is also set to star John Tui, Frankie Adams, and Rena Owen. The movie is directed by Thomas Kail from a script written by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Beau Flynn produce the film.

“Playing Maui has been the gift of a lifetime. Growing up as a Samoan — half Samoan and half black — in Samoan culture, Polynesian culture? We’re proud people,” Johnson said in a recent interview. “Proud of our culture. And what Moana has represented is a really awesome global embrace of Polynesian culture, our values and our qualities and our pride and our mana.
