Surprising DCU Return Teased by Black Adam Star
Pierce Brosnan shared a promising update about Doctor Fate and a potential return in the DCU.
In 2022, Brosnan portrayed Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate in Black Adam. The film was supposed to change the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe. However, poor critical reception and a disappointing box office haul killed any chance of a Black Adam 2. Plus, James Gunn and Peter Safran decided to reboot the DC Universe, leaving the fates of the Black Adam characters in limbo.
During an interview with GQ, Brosnan revealed that although he’s not “banging down the door” to return, he would consider reprising Doctor Fate.
What did Pierce Brosnan say about a return as Doctor Fate in the DCU?
“I’ve never banged down anyone’s door. I mean, they know where to find me,” Brosnan said. “I’ve heard that Doctor Fate was going to have his own show, or his own movie. I’ve heard that he’s going to be in the next Superman.”
When asked if he would want to play the character again, Brosnan said, “I enjoyed that, the philosophy of that character, very much, and I would definitely be open to it.”
In Superman, Doctor Fate appears in a mural at the Hall of Justice. Gunn later confirmed Doctor Fate’s appearance in an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Considering Gunn’s attention to detail in the DC Universe, the mural opens the door for Brosnan’s return, potentially in Man of Tomorrow.
Man of Tomorrow is a sequel to 2025’s Superman and Gunn’s next story in the Superman Saga. In the film, Superman and Lex Luthor will have to team up to face a bigger threat. Brainiac will reportedly be the villain in the sequel.
Man of Tomorrow begins shooting in 2026. It will be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
