Attack the Block 2: Sci-Fi Movie Gets Exciting Update
A new Attack the Block 2 update has been given by an unlikely person, revealing when the film is expected to begin production.
What’s the latest Attack the Block 2 update?
During a recent AMA session on Reddit promoting The Running Man, director Edgar Wright was asked about the status of the film. The director acknowledged that the film wasn’t his, but that Joe Cornish — who wrote and directed the original and has frequently worked with Wright — was working on the film now.
“Not my movie, but Joe has written a sequel and hopes to make it next year,” said Wright.
A sequel to 2011’s original horror movie has been up in the air for some time now. After the original film became a cult classic, fans have long been asking for a sequel. In 2021, a sequel was announced, with John Boyega set to reprise his role and lead the film. Since then, though, we’ve heard little to nothing, although Boyega did say earlier this year that the script had been finished.
Attack the Block debuted in 2011 and launched the career of lead Boyega. The original film centered on a teenage street gang who have to defend their block from an alien invasion in South London on Guy Fawkes Night. The movie also starred Jodie Whittaker, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, Jumayn Hunter, and Nick Frost.
The film underperformed at the box office after its premiere, but was beloved by critics and audiences. Since it’s release, the film has attained cult status and is often seen as one of the more entertaining original horror films of the 2010s.
